blogger-or-vlogger

If you are an internet savvy person, or a blogger yourself, you might not be familiar with the term “vlog” or maybe you did. Vlog is actually an acronym for Video Blog or commonly known as the YouTube culture. On the other hand, a blogger is someone who writes article about some specific niche and people read those articles over internet like a newspaper or a magazine. If you visit YouTube you will see millions of awesome videos getting uploaded every minute. You might also following some popular internet celebrity there like MKBHD and thinking yourself, can’t I create videos like this? Can’t I be a vlogger too? Well in this post I am going to explain all the pros and cost of being a vlogger comparing to a blogger.

The pros of vlogging

The main advantage of creating a vlog is that it is much more attractive than a general blog. A general blog is a website with lots of content. People navigate throughout the site looking of the content they need and then read it. Now as this are written texts, most people get bored easily compared to vlogs,

As vlogs are generally videos with lots of effects great background music and scripts, people look into it as an entertainment medium. Also as it is a video, you can actually share screencast or even show your viewers what exactly you are trying to say. Whereas in blog, the only option you have is to embed videos or images into your post.

The cons of vlogging

One of the major cons of vlogs are that the contents are unchangeable once they have been published. So if you done some mistakes while recording, you are stuck with it and you can’t change it by any means. The only options you have is to re-record the video. But if you are a blogger and you want to make some changes in your articles after they published, you can do that very easily, without any extra effort.

But again, blogs are not as entertaining as vlogs as the main medium is text based. Currently people are more looking for videos that looking for articles. Recently a study in California University shows that now-a-days people shearch on YouTube first before searching on Google and YouTube is world’s second largest search engine.

What about monetization?

Well, in the end of the people create blogs or blogs for earning money through monetization, like using Adsense. Adsense just not only monetize blog, it also monetize YouTube videos as a part of YouTube partner program. So if you have a successful YouTube channel with entertaining and engaging videos which people love to watch, YouTube will gladly accept you into their partners program and you can start showing ads on your videos. But if you are thinking that how much people earn from YouTube or how the YouTube partners program works, just take a look at this video below.

What about investment?

If you are planning to create a blog, all the investment you need is for hosting, domain name and website development cost (if you don’t do it by your own). But if you are thinking about creating a vlog, you might not need the website cost, you have to spend even more for a good DSLR or record video, a computer with top notch hardware to edit videos and very good editing knowledge in Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effect etc, a studio to record videos, custom lights, scripts for video and many more minor things. You may need to hire people to edit your videos so that it look professional and also you might need a dedicated team to record your videos. It’s hard to make it a one man job.

As you can see that the investments are huge in case of vlogs, of course if you are planning to create a successful vlog. Otherwise if your video is not entertaining enough, people will just leave it and look for other entertaining videos. Always remember that vlogs are always about entertainment and cool video effects. Even if you are educating people through your video, you have to do it such a way that it always be entertaining. As an example, you can watch videos from vSauce, Verisatium etc.

Conclusion

As you can see that creating a vlog might be easy but creating quality videos are not. So, if you are someone confused about which one to go for, blog or vlog. I hope this article will help you to enlight your path. So, what do you think about vlogs? Are you into vlogging rather than general blogging?
